Apple Picking

When I was a kid, I loved apple picking. It was how I knew fall was here. However, this year, I noticed that apple picking is a little expensive.

This year, I want to make apple butter, for which I’ll need about a bushel of apples. That’s about 42 pounds. I don’t know about you, but now that I’m the person carrying the apples, I don’t want to carry that many, never mind picking those apples.

Now, let’s worry about the price. My local orchard is selling apples for $28 for a 1/2 bushel ($56 for a bushel). Granted, with another promotion, I’ll get 2 free pumpkins, but I don’t really like them that much. My local grocery store will sell me apples for about a dollar a pound, and they always have coupons.

Sorry, maybe if I have kids next year, I’ll go apple picking.
